EuroGames Run 2005
One of the highlights of EuroGames Utrecht 2005 is the EuroGames Run on Saturday the 18th of June. It is the only sports event of the largest gay and lesbian sport tournament in Europe, which takes place between the 16h and 19th of June, that is open to everyone. As Guest Runner they can enjoy the unique atmosphere that this event brings with it.
The participants in the performance run have the choice of 3 distances, the Half Marathon, the 10 kilometres or the 5 kilometres. The entrance fee has been kept low to give as many 'Utrechtenaren' and other athletes the chance to participate. For just 5 euros everyone can register for the distances. There are no prizes but everyone will receive a memento at the finish.
||The run starts at the Hellas Athletic Stadium in Utrecht-Overvecht and goes through the countryside between Utrecht and Maarssen over hard and for a great part, car free (cycle) paths. It passes amongst other things the castle Oud Zuylen and follows the banks of the river Vecht for a number of kilometres.
The course was created in 2004 and will be used for the Zomeravondcup (Summer Evening Cup) in 2005.
The Half Marathon consists of two rounds, the first is around 11 km and the second is exactly 10 km.
The 10 km is one round. The 5 km is based on the 10 km course. The 10 km course has been measured and approved by the Dutch Athletics Association (KNAU). The 5 km and half marathon are based on this. The kilometre markings are valid for the 10 km course.
||There are two drinks posts along the course with water and sponges. These are set up in such a way that the runners pass three posts per round. At the finish the participants will receive a bottle of sport drink.
Shower and changing facilities are available at the athletic accommodation.
The organization will look after belongings at your own risk. There will be a First-Aid post at the athletics track.
||The course record for men is 33.08 (Moses Waweru) and for women 39.42 (Marjan Faber).
||Participation is open to everyone who wants to take part in the largest gay sport event in Europe in 2005. The entry cost is 5 euro regardless of the distance.
Each participant of the performance run will receive a ribbon as a memento. Prizes are only awarded to Registered Participants of the EuroGames Utrecht. Unfortunately it is no longer possible to register.
