Sparkling Finals Latin Dancing

By: Janny Nieboer

The hall of De Vechtsebanen was full of visitors to watch the Latin Ballroom Dancing Finals. After a long and hot day, finals started at about 17:00 hrs and lasted till after 20:30 hrs in the evening.

The second day of the ballroomdancing had a very good vibe. The audience was brilliant, cheering the participants and cheer leading at the side. Especially the German crowd was very present. The audience cheered all the couples who made a special dance performance in their dancing.

The speaker admitted that it was his first time leading a same sex competition. He complimented the dancers several times; both about the way they dressed and about their performance. "You really look very lovely", he said.
When the senior highest ranking men performed he told them: "You don't look like seniors at all". They absolutely danced the night away. The Greek couple won gold and the British silver.

It was also very moving to see the beginners perform in their finals. A Dutch female couple won. One of the dancers told me, that she definitely would try to perform in class D the next competition.

The finals of the women class A was a very exciting event. All the dancing couples matched the same level of dancing skills but at the same time they were very different. Two women were very young and danced on high heels and in short dresses. The German couple, who had won the day before in the Standard dance contest, now won silver. The gold medal was for a couple that had been second last year in Munich. They were overjoyed.

In class A of the men's competition the gold medals were awarded to a Hungarian couple. The young men danced with grace and utter power. The silver medal in the highest ranking class for men was for a Dutch couple.
