While the first games were already played, the participants still had something else to look forward to: the opening ceremony. Lady Mayor of Utrecht, Annie Brouwer, opened the EuroGames in the Jaarbeurs.

With a spectacular performance by DJ Rose, Glennis Grace and with speeches of the Lady Mayor, the board of the EuroGames, the organisation of the Gay Games Chicago and Erica Terpstra, the chairwoman of the Dutch sportfederation NOC*NSF .
During the speech of the Lady Mayor all light and sound seemed to break down. But soon the audience discovered that it was the intro of an amazing video spectacle that was projected om screen with a total cross-cut of 30 meters. Thunder and lightning soon made place for images of the past and present of the EuroGames to end with spectacular fireworks.

The fairytale of the EuroGames 2005 officially started.

The visitors of the ceremony were surprised by the spectacle. "It was better than in Munchen," says Rudy Mariady from Germany. This is the fifth time he participates in the EuroGames. The next day he had to play a badminton match. That is why Rudy left at eleven o'clock, to make sure he was fit enough the next morning. But he had confidence he would play well, because he trained hard. He showed his muscles to convince me.

Also DJ Rose had a good time. "It was great. There's a good atmosphere." The DJ first had to warm up the public, but that didn't make the artist nervous. "No, of course not. People come in and want to check out the musicians first, just to see what happens on stage."

If a visitor still doubted whether he was at a gay or straight event, after the cheering for the approval of the Swiss people of homosexual marriage, the dancing men surely would convince him. There were more male hips turning and swinging around than female hips. With those happy dancing gays the EuroGames really kicked off.
