Foundation Vriendschapsband Utrecht-León organizes in cooperation with COC Midden-Nederland a theme-night about gay acceptance in León, the sistercity of Utrecht in Nicaragua.
Ta~Boe?! in Nicaragua
Special guests are Edgar Trujillo (1975) and his partner Yesser Dimas (1985). Edgar and Yesser are participants of the EuroGames Utrecht 2005 (ballroomdancing), through the Outreachprogramme. Edgar works in León as a danceteacher, actor, coiffeur and grimeur. He is part of the gay dance/theatre group that wants to bring plays with as a theme gay sexuality. Yesser is a dancetheater and active in a youth organization and in safesex promotion for young gay men and women. Every expression of gay sexuality, so also activities organized for gay acceptance, are illegal by law in Nicaragua. The strong influence by the Catholic church blocks social acceptance. In spite of this there are people like Edgar and Yesser who trie to reach out and struggle for their rights.
During Ta~Boe?! they tell their story.
Last year the first 'Cultural Festival' was held in Nicaragua, organized by and for gay men and women in Nicaragua. A second edition of the Festival will take place in June 2005. The Festival is also inspired by the MidZomerGracht festival and has the purpose to promote the acceptance, integration and rights of lesbian women and gay men in Nicaragua.
Ta~Boe?! in Nicaragua is a cooperation between Foundation Vriendschapsband Utrecht-León and study group Ta~Boe?! of the COC Midden-Nederland.
Foundation Vriendschapsband Utrecht-León contributes in structural improving the circumstances of the lowest income groups in León and supports the acceptance of groups in an arrears position.
